The Indian Creek Foundation’s Day Program is a lively environment for clients and staff alike. Many of our participants have been coming to the Day Program for years, so we work hard to make sure they enjoy their days here and look forward to joining us.
Felicia, our Day Services Program Coordinator, is in charge of creating that positive atmosphere. Not only does she supervise the Direct Support Professional (DSP) staff in the Day Program, but she also works directly with the clients throughout the day. Felicia says that she enjoys her work so much that she doesn’t ever want to miss a moment.
Start Each Day with a Smile
Felicia makes it a point to be at the front door every morning right at 8:00. Whether she is greeting staff or Day Program participants, she wants to make sure they are welcomed with a smile and the assurance that today is going to be a great day.
She says that greeting people at the door creates energy for the whole day. Day Program participants come from our Residential Program and from their own homes in the community. When they arrive, they are happy to see familiar smiling faces, and they know that they will be safe and cared for during their time here.
Felicia continues to maintain that energetic tone throughout the day’s activities. She began her career here as a DSP, so her heart is very much in direct care. Her office is connected to the main Day Program area, and she spends as much of her time as possible out with her staff and clients. She is conscientious about the schedule and programs that keep our clients engaged, happy, and learning. She enjoys both the regularly scheduled activities and the special programs for how they entertain the participants while imparting vital skills.
Cultivating a Passionate Staff
Felicia leads the Day Program’s staff of DSPs. She prefers to work closely with her staff to ensure that they have everything they need to be successful at work. She holds regular staff meetings to maintain ongoing communication and awareness of schedule changes. She believes that when there is a positive organizational culture, people are happy in their jobs and do their best work.
DSPs make sure our participants’ needs are always being met throughout their day. They also teach and reinforce skills. Above all, Felicia and her competent team of DSPs maintain safety for each client. For most of the participants and staff, it is like being with family. Everyone genuinely cares for one another.
When Felicia interviews potential staff for her department, what she is looking for most is passion and patience. Her staff just loves coming to work every day; they don’t even like taking time off. Anyone who joins the team will be encouraged to embrace all of the fun and positivity that is integrated throughout each relationship.
